Unicorns
(Unus Comu)
The Unicorns of today usually are depicted as a horse with a singular horn. Tradionaly however they were also depicted as having a billy goat like beard, the tail of a lion and cloven hooves.
Unicorns Throughout History:
- Found on some seals from the Indus Valley Civilization, thought to indicate high social rank
- In the Bible a creature called the Re'em is mentioned in various parts, often as a metaphor for strength.
- In the 13th century Unicorns where symbolised with chaste, love and faithful marriage
- It was believed only virgins could mount a Unicorn.
- In the 17th century it was believed that Unicorn horn could neutralize poisions.
