Monday Mythical Creatures

SATYR
(Greek - Sátyroi)


Described as having the upper half of a man and lower half of a goat, with goat horns, pointed ears, curly hair, and goat beard. Earlier accounts state they had horse tails.
They were to companions to the Gods Pan and Dionysus.
Roamed woodlands and mountain areas

FACTS
  • Lovers of wine,women and boys.
  • They enjoy dance as well as pipes, cymbals, castanets and bagpipes.
  • The pursue and have an obsession with Nymphs
  • Older Satyrs were known as Sileni, younger were known as Satyrisci
  • In the King James bible, the word Satyr is used to represent the hebrew word Sh'lrlm or "Hairy Ones"

Chronicles of Narnia - The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe - Sir Tumnas whom lucy first meets in Narnia is a Faun, similar to a Satyr (Roman mythology)
Percy Jackson - The Lightning Thief (and all others in the series) - Percys best friend is a Satyr, and in book 4 there is even an encounter with the God Pan
