Freak of nature takes on a whole new meaning...
If she hadn't been so clueless, she might have seen it coming. But really, who expects to get into a relaxing bathtub after a stressful day of shopping for tankinis and come out with scales and a tail?
Most. Embarrassing. Moment. Ever.

Jade soon discovers she inherited her mermaid tendencies from her mom. But if Mom was a mermaid, how did she drown?
Jade is determined to find out. So how does a plus-size, aqua-phobic mer-girl go about doing that exactly? And how will Jade ever be able to explain her secret to her best friend, Cori, and to her crush, Luke?

This summer is about to get a lot more interesting...  (goodreads)

Real Mermaids Don't Wear Toe Rings is a humorous, short romp into 14 year old Jades life, from trying to find the perfect baithing suit, to finding out shes a mermaid and learning that her mother who died a year ago, is not really dead, and trying to figure out how to save her. This is not a 'turns into a mermaid and tries to learn how to deal with it book' quite the opposite.

Jade does not want to be a mermaid, she just wants to save her mom from the 'freshies', the inprisioned mermaids who have her mom captive. The book was a light read, it never took itself too seriously and although it never really let us get to know the characters like Luke or Cori that well, it was a good story for what it was.

I think the best part was that Jade was not a size 2 and was a real down to earth person. She was brave and determained, and i respect the author for that. the ending was quite sweet, and I really hope that there will be a sequel, im not sure if the end hinted to it or not but id love to find out what may come.
