Question - Activity! Who is your to-die-for book crush? What do you think they look like? Add an image to make us all happy.

Wow.. ummm.. this is hard! My crush is Drizzt from the forgotten realms series by R. A. Salvatore but its hard to pick a human guy who would look like Drizzt! (since hes a dark elf who has long white hair, almost jet black skin and centuries old) BUT if i had to choose..

Norman Reedus with straight long hair.. yah.. kick butt and cute at the same time! What can I say? The guy has spunk!

On the Edge
Author - Ilona Andrews
Genre - Urban Paranormal
Series - The Edge #1
Pages - 326

Description from Goodreads

Rose Drayton lives on the Edge, between the world of the Broken (where people drive cars, shop at Wal-Mart, and magic is a fairy tale) and the Weird (where blueblood aristocrats rule, changelings roam, and the strength of your magic can change your destiny). Only Edgers like Rose can easily travel from one world to the next, but they never truly belong in either.

Rose thought if she practiced her magic, she could build a better life for herself. But things didn’t turn out how she planned, and now she works a minimum wage, off the books job in the Broken just to survive. Then Declan Camarine, a blueblood noble straight out of the deepest part of the Weird, comes into her life, determined to have her (and her power).

But when a terrible danger invades the Edge from the Weird, a flood of creatures hungry for magic, Declan and Rose must work together to destroy them—or they’ll devour the Edge and everyone in it.

Phew! What a thrill/joy ride!

Rose lives in the Edge, the space between The Weird (magicaly enhanced) and The Broken (normal human world, like our world) The Edge has some magic but isn’t as potent, but its home for her and her brothers; Jack a lynx shapeshifter and George a necromancer.

Rose and her brothers are not rich, but they make due. Rose works in the Broken as a cleaner, she has her grandmother and is living a pretty happy life, that is until Delcan comes along. Sexy, strong, blueblood (Weird born noble) Declan, with his marriage proposal and pretentious attitude. What starts as a challenge for her hand becomes a fight for survival as weird hounds with an appetite for magic (called flash) start eating Roses neighbors. Now she must rely on Declan to protect her and everyone she loves.

Rose is a good character, shes strong. Smart. And loves her brothers so much she would do anything to keep them safe. She did not get on my nerves like most heroines, and she always kept a level head, even when our love interest(s) came on scene. Speaking of, Declan.. can we say yum? Strong, protective, funny and sexy! He is the perfect counter-part to Rose. He is protective of the kids and keeps his word. The kids are even good, I love Jack and when he changes the narrative changes too, its more animalistic and simple much like what you think a lynx would talk like if it could. George is also a sweetie and he can bring animals and people back to life, though it drains his to do so, I felt so bad for him.

The story flowed nicely and it was most believable. The descriptions were spot on and I could imagine the Hounds in my head and *shiver* they are creepy. The love sections were good and even though there is a bit of raunchiness and swearing it is a good book and I look forward to the next in the series.

Slashback
Author - Rob Thurman
Series - Cal Leandros #8
Genre - Urban Paranormal
Pages - 352
Release Date - March 5th 2013

I stopped and let them circle me, first because it was intriguing and, second, because, honestly, what could they do? Only knives, but all armed, and that made them even more interesting. Interesting. Fun. Playtime…

Taking on bloodthirsty supernatural monsters is how Caliban and Niko Leandros make a living. But years ago—before they became a force to be reckoned with—the brothers were almost victims of a very human serial killer. Almost.

Unfortunately for them, that particular depraved killer was working as apprentice to a creature far more malevolent—the legendary Spring-heeled Jack. He’s just hit town. He hasn’t forgotten what the Leandros brothers did to his murderous protégé.

He hasn’t forgotten what they owe him. And now they are going to pay… and pay… and pay.…

Books are turned into movies all the time. Turn it around! What movie would make a great book?

I am going to go cute and say Alpha and Omega. I love books told in the eyes of animals and I think this would be very well done if an adult writer got hold on it and made it a bit more mature.

Description from Goodreads

We’re the D’Artigo sisters: savvy half-human, half-Fae ex-operatives for the Otherworld Intelligence Agency. My sister Delilah is a two-faced werecat and a Death Maiden. My sister Menolly is a vampire married to a werepuma. And me? I’m Camille, a wicked-good witch with three sexy husbands. I’m a priestess of the Moon Mother, and I’m training under the Queen of Darkness. Unfortunately, playing in the dark means that sometimes you stumble over secrets better left buried…

There’s a new Fae sorcerer in town—Bran, the son of Raven Mother and the Black Unicorn—and I’m the unwilling liaison between him and our new Earthside OIA. With cemeteries being ransacked and spirits being harvested by a sinister, otherworldly force, Aeval sends us to rescue the missing wife of a prominent member of the Fae nobility. Review - Struck

Struck
Author - Jennifer Bosworth
Series - Struck #1
Genre - YA Fantasy
Pages - 373

Description from Goodreads

Mia Price is a lightning addict. She’s survived countless strikes, but her craving to connect to the energy in storms endangers her life and the lives of those around her.

Los Angeles, where lightning rarely strikes, is one of the few places Mia feels safe from her addiction. But when an earthquake devastates the city, her haven is transformed into a minefield of chaos and danger. The beaches become massive tent cities. Downtown is a crumbling wasteland, where a traveling party moves to a different empty building each night, the revelers drawn to the destruction by a force they cannot deny. Two warring cults rise to power, and both see Mia as the key to their opposing doomsday prophecies. They believe she has a connection to the freak electrical storm that caused the quake, and to the far more devastating storm that is yet to come.

Mia wants to trust the enigmatic and alluring Jeremy when he promises to protect her, but she fears he isn’t who he claims to be. In the end, the passion and power that brought them together could be their downfall. When the final disaster strikes, Mia must risk unleashing the full horror of her strength to save the people she loves, or lose everything.

Is it over? Can I poke it with a stick? Is it dead? T

hose were my thoughts at the end of this book. I was just that bad.

The premise makes it seem like it will be an action-filled, lovey-dovey, cult-clashing novel of coolness. It. Is. Not.

Mia has been struck by lightning countless times and has lived, now the one called Prophet has predicted a super storm that will strike in 3 days, and it’s up to Mia to stop it or destroy everything.

Mia just plain got on my nerves, really everyone in this book did. The characterization is just bad, bad, bad! I think the ONLY one who I could stand was her brother Parker because he did what he thought was right and he stood up for himself while keeping compassion. Mia however, she liked to complain that is, when she was not swooning over Jeremy our ‘love interest’ Sure, let us fall in love with the guy who stalked/tried to kill us, good job Mia. Oh wait, It’s okay though! He’s hot! That makes his past transgressions totally forgivable and fine! PFFFFFF!!! Whatever.

The cult-clash between the seekers and Prophet was just ‘meh.’ Really about 70 percent in I thought I was reading a teen version of the bible, God was in every other sentence and I really sludged through the last 30% of the book, I felt like I was wrong for doing things that I do, and no book should make you feel that way.

Really, If you think you can put up with what i have stated then by all means try the book, you may like it. However, I am going to avoid anything else to do with this series.

Question: What is a deal breaker for you in a book? Do you abhor love triangles? Or can't deal with bad editing?

Good question! I can't stand love triangles, it seems they are everywhere these days! I also can't stand when all the sub characters are in love with the main character, it is so annoying and unrealistic to have EVERYONE pine for the main character. It's even worse when she/he is bratty or arrogant. Also i do not like long descriptions of rock or mountain faces, you do not need a page and a half to describe how perfectly the sun glints off the snow-capped hills.

The Iron Knight
Author - Julie Kagawa
Series - Iron Fey #4
Genre - YA Fantasy
Pages - 394

Description From Goodreads

"My name--my True Name--is Ashallayn' darkmyr Tallyn. I am the last remaining son of Mab, Queen of the Unseelie Court. And I am dead to her. My fall began, as many stories do, with a girl..."To cold faery prince Ash, love was a weakness for mortals and fools. His own love had died a horrible death, killing any gentler feelings the Winter prince might have had. Or so he thought.

Then Meghan Chase--a half human, half fey slip of a girl--smashed through his barricades, binding him to her irrevocably with his oath to be her knight. And when all of Faery nearly fell to the Iron fey, she severed their bond to save his life. Meghan is now the Iron Queen, ruler of a realm where no Winter or Summer fey can survive.

With the unwelcome company of his archrival, Summer Court prankster Puck, and the infuriating cait sith Grimalkin, Ash begins a journey he is bound to see through to its end--a quest to find a way to honor his vow to stand by Meghan's side.

To survive in the Iron Realm, Ash must have a soul and a mortal body. But the tests he must face to earn these things are impossible. And along the way Ash learns something that changes everything. A truth that challenges his darkest beliefs and shows him that, sometimes, it takes more than courage to make the ultimate sacrifice

This installment of the Iron Fey series takes on the voice of Ash, the former winter prince. He is on a quest to figure out how to be with Meghan, the newly appointed Iron Queen and boy, is he in for an adventure!

Puck and Grimalkin accompany him on his quest, as does the big bad wolf and another surprising person. The action is not very prevelant in this addition, and I did find myself skipping some pages, specifically near the end (about 70% through) there was a whole chapter that I just did not feel belonged in the story, sure it made sense but, was boring.

Ash was a good character to tell the story, though I think if it were in Pucks voice it would have been a bit funnier, or perhaps less angsty. Puck really shines though and I gotta say, the big bad wolf was my favorite character in this book. Grimalkin also improved, I really think Ash was my least favorite, I just do not like the brooding winter fey as much as I used to and I’m glad he got his good ending but really, I found I did not care if he did or not throughout the book.

Don’t get me wrong, the book needs to be read but compared to the last book, which had me bawling at the end, this was just.. okay.
