Genre - Urban Paranormal
Pages - 416

Description from Goodreads

Atlanta: it's the promised city for the off-worlders, foreigners from the alternate dimensions of heaven-like Elysia and hell-like Charbydon. Some bring good works and miracles. And some bring unimaginable evil....

Charlie Madigan is a divorced mother of one, and a kick-ass cop trained to take down the toughest human and off-world criminals. She's recently returned from the dead after a brutal attack, an unexplained revival that has left her plagued by ruthless nightmares and random outbursts of strength that make doing her job for Atlanta P.D.'s Integration Task Force even harder. Since the Revelation, the criminal element in Underground Atlanta has grown, leaving Charlie and her partner Hank to keep the chaos to a dull roar. But now an insidious new danger is descending on her city with terrifying speed, threatening innocent lives: a deadly, off-world narcotic known as ash. Charlie is determined to uncover the source of ash before it targets another victim -- but can she protect those she loves from a force more powerful than heaven and hell combined?

Charlie Madigan. Detective in the ITF, mother, and all around badass has died. How did she live? Well, she doesn’t really know. All she knows is somehow it has changed her.

Better Part of Darkness starts out with a young girl who has ingested a new substance called ash. Ash is the new drug from the otherworlders, the magical creatures that have decided to come out of the woodworks and reside in our (human) world. You have your goodly mages and sirens and the like. Then you have your slightly less good jinn, goblins and abbadon nobles. But with everything, nothing is ever just black and white.

While looking into the case of ash Charlies daughter Emma gets stolen and thus our adventure really picks up.

Not to say it wasn’t a good ride but about sixty to seventy percent through or so is when her daughter gets taken and that is when it gets very good. The beginning is good as well, the fights and plot twists are acceptable and the characters interesting although not very in-depth.

Charlie is your usual hard and nails type with a soft side (she cries very easily, if fact I got a little sick of it by halfway through) but she was still a nice personality to have around, she is witty with her quips and really cares for her daughter and would do anything, anything for her. I also like that she doesn’t just fall into the powers she has and she is apprehensive of them . Her partner, Hank the siren is a good strong male role and I did enjoy his presence even if we never actually get to see him use his powers.

The other characters such as her sister Bryn and the revenant Rex add a good touch. If there was one thing I would say brought the book down a bit was the lack of description. Not about the world or anything but about the characters, some of them really had no backgrounds, the bad guy especially. He is bad, that is it and no more. However this does not really deter from the enjoyment of the novel.

DETAILS ABOUT IMMORTALS

Nothing can stop Raine Cooper when she wants something… Raine finally knows that her gorgeous neighbor, Torin St. James, is a legend straight out of Norse mythology but that doesn’t stop her from falling hard for him.

Torin is crazy about Raine too, breaking the one rule he lives by: Never fall for a mortal. The problem is he no longer remembers her or that she saved him by making a deal with Norns—Norse destiny deities—the same Norns who have now erased his memories of their past together to punish her.

So Raine comes up with a plan... She will make Torin forget his one rule a second time and fall in love with her all over again. But before Raine can put her plan into action, the Norns return. This time, they demand she protects Eirik Seville, her best friend since childhood, from an evil so dark even the Norns are scared. But you know what they say about well-laid plans…

Caught between protecting Eirik and convincing the stubborn, cocky Torin St. James that the two of them are meant to be together, Raine's life slowly unravels. Friendships are tested. Enemies become allies. Desperate, Raine makes choices that could not only tear her and Torin further apart, but lead to the destruction of everything and everyone she loves.

Absolute Will
Author - Robin Tremly
Genre - Adult/BDSM
Pages - E-book Only

Description from Goodreads

Faith knew what she wanted. Her career, her own life, and the occasional play partner. She had planned out her existence and was quite capable of fulfilling it on her own, no man needed. She was self-reliant and strong. At least, she considered herself to be. However, a few martinis and a chance encounter with a woman that she expected would be a casual fling, ended up turning Faith's world upside down and her beliefs in strength and independence turned inside out. Take a journey with Faith as she learns true courage in offering absolute submission to another; another who accepts nothing but absolute obedience to his will

As a first foray into a BDSM novel I must say I was not displeased. It was a challenge for me sure, there is no background to the characters and no real world building but the story flowed nicely and the writing was simple but elegant. It took about 8% of the book to really get into it and at first the style of the characters point of views confused me but it became easier after a few pages.

The story is straightforward: Faith meets a girl named Grace, Grace brings her home, they have wonderful sex and then Grace’s Master (William) caught them and decided to punish them both. Thus, setting Faith on the path into a whole new lifestyle of which she is frightened and curious, the live of BDSM, Dominate/Submissive.

The struggles of Faith and the Dominance of William are greatly portrayed going into depth and descriptions that will leave you blushing and wanting more. I enjoyed watching Faith grow and accept her new lifestyle, even if it was hard and painful for her it was nice to see her open up at the end.

While there are a few mistakes in the novel (I found 2) It was well edited. Throughout the books I was appalled, angry, confused, and utterly engrossed, finishing the book in one sitting. I do hope the author decides to write more books, and maybe expand on this one since we only got to see the tip of the iceberg of the relationship between Grace, Faith and William.
