Bean Sidhe
(Banshee)
Irish - "Woman of the mounds"


Facts

  • Usually shows up in one of there forms : a young woman, a matron or an old hag.
  • Usually wears simple country clothes and has long white/very pale hair
  • The Bean Sidhe visits a household and by keening (wailing) she warns that a member of thier family is about to die.
  • She is also known as Bean-nighe or washing women as she is sometimes seen in lonely places washing the clothes of those soon to die.
  • The Bean-Sidhes keening happens the night before the person is to die.
  • The Bean Sidhe is often mistaken as taking the form of a crow
  • They are said to appear around natural forces such as trees, rivers and stones.
