Synopsis from Goodreads

When a devastating earthquake strikes Manhattan, Travis Hunter finds himself among the other survivors trying to make sense of a city in ruins. In the aftermath, word spreads among the displaced: New York City was only a small part of a global disaster. For the first time in human history an earthquake shook the entire world.

While trying to get back home, Travis is confronted by a being from another realm and tasked with a divine mission: help bring on the apocalypse or be killed. Faced with this directive from a messenger of God, Travis must assume a role dating back to the beginning of time and is forced to begin a journey that will destroy all of humanity

As Darkness Ends is a rather short book, I was able to complete it in an hour or two. The story is about Travis, who like many others have just survived a devastating earthquake that destroyed New York City and the rest of the world. As hes traveling to get home he comes across Davos, a strange being from a different dimension. Davos tells him he must go around the world and link Encautum (a type of energy) to itself in 3 days or all of humanity is doomed. If he doesn't do it? He will die anyways, so of course he goes on his journey.

The story was different enough that it kept me interested, and the way Travis wants to help people even though he is the cause of thier pain was commendable. The neat teleporting trick he learns is pretty nifty as well. There is not a lot of action or suspense in this novel, and you never really get to know about Travis or Davos who are basically the only two characters of note. However it was enjoyable and the ending was pretty cool. I think the whole thing would have really benefited by having 50-100 more pages just to add more depth and maybe character development but all in all I am looking forward to the next book.
