Blood Burn
Series - Burn #1
Author - J. E. Fletcher
Genre - Apocalyptic
Pages - 222

Description from Goodreads

Have you ever wondered what would happens to a werewolf in the vampire/zombie apocalypse?

When Layne Yow finds herself smack in the middle of a full fledged zombie apocalypse she does what any werewolf would do...she calls bullshit on the universe. Sure, there are vampires, werewolves, and other assorted paranormal creatures in the world, but zombies? No freakin' way.

Layne is a young werewolf on the run from her recent past as an elite vampire killer. She quickly finds out that you can't outrun life or absurdity. Layne's big mouth and desire to rescue everyone puts her (and her new friends) into harm's way more than once.

Werewolves, Zombies, Vampires? Oh my!

Yup you get all three in this nice debut from J. E. Fletcher. While they are not explained so well (we know there is a war going on between wolves and vampires and the zombies just showed up suddenly) it sets up a nice cushy detail zone for book number two (Shadow Burn).

Layne our leading lady is.. alright. I like my ladies tough as nails but Layne would not have lacked had she shown some vulnerability. She compartmentalizes and always brings forth her battle hardened persona. I hope our main man Brandon can start to change that side of her and make her more likable throughout the series.

While there is some action and good zombie decapitation/squishing the main bulk of the story was just Layne and her friends trying to survive and find survivors. This is okay but it got a bit old sometimes, I like my action. The twist near the end was good though and sets up well for the next book, and Claudette? I think she is very interesting and I can't wait to see what becomes of her and Dawn.

I have just one question though. Demons were mentioned do we get to see any? I hope so!

The Lotus Palace
Author - Jeannie Lin
Series - The Pingkang Li Mysteries #1
Genre - Fiction/Romance
Pages - 378

Description from Goodreads

Maidservant Yue-ying is not one of those beauties. Street-smart and practical, she's content to live in the shadow of her infamous mistress—until she meets the aristocratic playboy Bai Huang.

Bai Huang lives in a privileged world Yue-ying can barely imagine, yet alone share, but as they are thrown together in an attempt to solve a deadly mystery, they both start to dream of a different life. Yet Bai Huang's position means that all she could ever be to him is his concubine—will she sacrifice her pride to follow her heart?

I love my fiction books, I love action and blood and gore and epic adventures, but romance? Not so much. Unless you mention the name Jeannie Lin, then I am willing to read her masterfull chinese romance fictions. It is something about the way she makes the characters come alive and makes you actually care for them. The careful storytelling and the descriptions are so lyrical and the amount of time she spends on research is commendable.

The characters are both charming and multi-faceted. Yue-Ying is a great main leader, she is shy ad self dependant. loyal and hard-headed. She would do anything for Mingyu. When she witnesses a dead body (murder) she is thrown into a conspiracy that will shatter her would and everything she has known. Our other hero Bai is a lovable fool who may or may not be who he says he is.

The romance was sweet and believeable, there were points were i was going 'awwww' and 'nooo!' I really got inot it. The mystery part was also pretty good, It gave you little hints and you think you know who it is but then you don't and it was a great revelation.

If this is your first book by Jeanie Lin, do not expect any action (Go to TheSword Dancer) for that, but do expect a lovely ride that will melt your heart and warm your day.

It is no secret that I adore organic and homemade bath/beauty items. TheWandMerchant on Etsy has just that. A lip/hand/skin balm that smells wonderful and works great. Don't let the name fool you, while he DOES sell wands, I am just reviewing his balm today.

About TheWandMerchant

The Wand Merchant offers practicing Pagans, Druids, Witches, Wiccans, and occult dabblers a selection of naturally shaped wands that have been collected respectfully from nature.
Very soon I will add a selection of handmade staffs and hand-carved wooden pendants, and MANY more fine wands of various woods! Keep checking the store for updates on this.

About the creator
My full name is Tyler Chase Simpson, I am eighteen years old and currently live in Virginia. I was born and raised in a rural town in North Carolina called Asheboro, which I dearly miss. I have been a practicing eclectic neo-pagan for about four years now and I learn as much as I possibly can bout The Craft everyday. My hobbies are carving wands, experimenting with oils and other natural substances for beauty products, writing, and keeping up with my terribly mischievous ferrets and cat.
My dream is to own my own physical Occult store one day in the future.

I opened up the shop because I make so many wands that I don't want to sit around and collect dust, I want them to be put to use and give them to someone who will use them. Also I have a feeling I was born to provide people with that certain tool, I've always been drawn to the tool since i was a teeny tot. As for the Balms, well it's sort of a new thing I have gotten into. I have so much free time and such a calling to do these things that I decided just to try out a little online store to make some money out of it!

THE REVIEW

Carnivorous Beauty Magick BODY BALM LOTION moisturizing organic beauty

Scent: Love Bites - 2oz

 Description

This unique product can be used as a lip balm, body balm, or to heal dry spots on the body. It has been scented with some essential oils and made from a blend of beeswax, olive oil, and coconut oil. It is 100% organic and has been blessed by yours truly. This product has a special enchantment on it- an enticing charm that clings to anybody who applies it to their body. This smooth balm will give you a spicy and seducing aura. It has been enchanted with the powerful magick of the Venus Fly Trap. This plant entices it's prey with it's beauty and sweet smelling nectar, and when the prey falls for the trick it becomes an easy meal for the plant. This balm has been gifted with that same ability; to draw those you want towards you until they fall into your seducing trap! Now, of course this product won't make others fall head over heels for you, but it will help you get the attention of others such as your crush.
This balm has no overpowering scent, it is light and very sweet. Also, very little goes a LONG way. Simply rubbing your finger lightly on the balm's surface leaves enough on your finger to moisturize your entire hands. It also quickly absorbs into the skin for 24 hour hydration. It is a travel size and lasts very long.
Become the temptress you were meant to be and let others know that love bites! :)

MY REVIEW

First of all I have to say, the packaging as just lovely! My package came with a few extras (tea lights, a bag of herbs, incense.) It was jut a nice little mix of essentials that I though was a nice thoughtful touch.

Now onto the balm! The jar is a nice sturdy plastic jar that screws open. The jar is clearly labeled with the Carnivorous Beauty label and the scent of the product: Love Bites. The scent is wonderful, it is very spicy with an orange sweetness that reminds me of Yule time. The scent lingers on the skin for quite a few hours depending on hat you are doing and you DO NOT need a lot of the product to get the most out of it. After about 3 hours I still smelled the spice of it (cloves) but the orange sort of dissipated, not a total loss though it is still a wonderful scent. At 2.50 a jar you are getting a nice quality product for a good price.

Feature Friday

Feature Friday is hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read

QUESTION: Have any pets? Tell us or show us!

I have 1 dog named Panda. She is a Maltese/Poodle mix and is 6yrs old. She loves to read with me and snuggle under the covers when I go to sleep.I got her from the flea market, (yes i know, bad me) but i had been looking at shelters for months and none of them had what i was looking for (a fluffy, small female puppy) I KNOW i should not have been so picky but in a way I was glad i was. I went up to her cage (the very last place of the day that i was willing to look because i had such heartbreak with all the other places) and there she was, this tiny, runt of the litter black and white female fluff ball! she was so perfect. The other pups were asleep but when i put my finger in the cage she crawled over and bit it. She was MINE! I fully believe she chose me and I do not know what i would have done without her that day and all days after.

Here are some pics of my silly, derptastic, scruffy Panda-Roo!

Conception 2 : Children of the Seven Stars

Brought to you by Atlus Conception 2 releases April 15 2014. However the Demo is out on 3DS and PsP VITA right now! Here are my impressions.

The Demo starts off like any other, you get a bit of text explaining what the world is and what star children are. You can then go to the academy and talk to 3 individual girls (part of your party) and try to get them to be happy. You can however, only talk to two each play-through which does give you an incentive to play the demo again. After this you will be asked to "Classmate" with one of the girls (create a star child) this is a nice introduction into what will be a major part of the game in its full release.

Then the meat of the demo, the labyrinth! Battles, item gathering, explanations. You get a very good look at the battle system here. I had quite a bit of fun with it, and with 3 girls to choose to bring into the labyrinth you will have to play the demo 3 times to make sure you see what each girl brings to the front lines. Seeing the enemies on screen is nice and i love that you also see your own characters and children on screen, it helps the 'dungeon crawler' aspect have some life! There is a bit of info to memorize but once you get the hang of it, it is quite easy and interesting.

There are tons of items to collect in the games full release (I assume, I mean look at all those children who need new armor and weapons and rings!) the dialogue was fun with the girls and the graphics are very pretty. Its bright, colorful and a bit scary. I for one and thrilled to have pre-ordered this game. If you think you would like it, go get the demo!

Halfway to the Grave
Author - Jeaniene Frost
Series - Night Hunter #1
Genre - Urban Paranormal
Pages - 358

Description from Goodreads

Half-vampire Catherine Crawfield is going after the undead with a vengeance, hoping that one of these deadbeats is her father—the one responsible for ruining her mother's life. Then she's captured by Bones, a vampire bounty hunter, and is forced into an unholy partnership.

In exchange for finding her father, Cat agrees to train with the sexy night stalker until her battle reflexes are as sharp as his fangs. She's amazed she doesn't end up as his dinner—are there actually good vampires? Pretty soon Bones will have her convinced that being half-dead doesn't have to be all bad. But before she can enjoy her newfound status as kick-ass demon hunter, Cat and Bones are pursued by a group of killers. Now Cat will have to choose a side . . . and Bones is turning out to be as tempting as any man with a heartbeat.

Half-vampire female lead slays vampires. She meets one vampire in particular, hes perfect, english and strong. Female lead falls in love with said vampire after he starts teachign her how to kill better.. yada yada. Nothing new right? However, I did find myself enjoying the books despite it's rather lackluster imagination.

I could not get myself to love our heroine though. Cat is find as a person and shes fine as a slayer but she has one stupidly annoying quality that grated on my nerves: she never listened. Bones (we will get to him) would always try to protect her and keep her from rushing into things but she never would follow instructions. She would rush foward, she would demand to be part of soemthing dangerous or going somewhere where he clearly stated she did not want him to. Annoying.

Bones however, now he was a treat. I am not one for english accents or short blond hair but he was just stunning to listen to and to read about. He is snarky and arrogant without being overly blatant about it, althoug he is blunt at times. He really cares for Cat and wants to protect her with everything he is. Truely, a vampire after my own heart.

The storyline was a bit boring at points, it is your usual mystery vampire slaying gotta kill em' cliche but it kept me interested enough to finish the book and want to read the next one. There is a bit *cough* a lot of profanity and sex but if you can stand that then by all means read the book, while it won't blow you away it is a nice little number that will have you wanting more
